Financial Times on DNA-guided prescribing

The Financial Times highlights the Netherlands as a pioneer in pharmacogenetic prescribing - enabled by the clinical infrastructure powered by iGene Pharmaco

The Netherlands leads in DNA-guided prescribing

The Financial Times recently featured the Netherlands as a global pioneer in implementing pharmacogenetic testing within everyday healthcare. In the article, Professor Ron van Schaik (Erasmus MC) describes how patients can use a DNA medication passport to ensure that prescriptions are tailored to their genetic profile.
When a patient presents this passport at the pharmacy, pharmacists can immediately adjust medication doses based on validated pharmacogenetic data - making therapy both safer and more effective.

This national model is supported by Dutch pharmacogenetic guidelines (DPWG), evolving reimbursement structures for clinically relevant testing and a secure digital infrastructure connecting laboratories, prescribers and pharmacists. Powered by iGene Pharmaco.

A turning point in personalised pharmacotherapy

Across the world, health systems increasingly recognise that genetic variation profoundly affects how patients respond to medicines. The Financial Times positions the Dutch system within this global shift: Reducing adverse drug reactions, preventing hospital admissions, and improving outcomes by integrating pharmacogenetic insights into routine care. This approach marks a key transition, from reactive prescribing to preventive pharmacotherapy guided by DNA.

iGene Pharmaco powers the pharmacogenetic infrastructure behind this innovation

At iGene Pharmaco, we are proud to provide the pharmacogenetic testing, data interpretation and clinical decision support infrastructure that underpins this nationwide implementation.
Our technology enables leading institutions, such as Erasmus MC, to deliver validated, guideline-based pharmacogenetic reports directly within existing clinical and pharmacy systems without disrupting the workflow. All within a safe, compliant, and healthcare-ready environment.

Through this collaboration, iGene Pharmaco contributes to a healthcare ecosystem where every prescription can be informed by a patient’s DNA profile.
